These days, pain in Hip is one of the common problems everyone faces. Some of the people are going through very severe pain, and some are bearing it to an extent. To get rid of the problem now, Hip replacement surgery is available.
Hip replacement surgery is one of the most common types of surgery suggested to patients having a problem in hips.
Usually, the problem in hips arises at the age of 60 and 80. But sometimes due to some unwanted injuries, the problem may arise.
Hip replacement is a surgical process where a prosthetic implant is placed at the hip joint. The implant is known as a hip prosthesis.
In a total hip replacement (also called total hip arthroplasty), the damaged bone and cartilage is removed and replaced with prosthetic components.
The Procedure of Total Hip Replacement:
- The damaged femoral head is removed and replaced with a metal stem that is placed into the hollow center of the femur. The femoral stem may be either cemented or "press fit" into the bone.
- A metal or ceramic ball is placed on the upper part of the stem. This ball replaces the damaged femoral head that was removed.
- The damaged cartilage surface of the socket (acetabulum) is removed and replaced with a metal socket. Screws or cement are sometimes used to hold the socket in place.
- A plastic, ceramic, or metal spacer is inserted between the new ball and the socket to allow for a smooth gliding surface.
Partial hip replacement surgery, also known as hip hemiarthroplasty, is a surgical procedure in which only one half (the femoral head) of the hip joint is replaced with an artificial implant. This procedure is often performed in cases where the hip joint's ball-and-socket structure is compromised due to conditions such as fractures, osteoarthritis, or avascular necrosis
Advantages linked with this surgery are:-
- Reduced Risk of Dislocation.
- Suitability for Certain Conditions.
- Improved Function and Pain Relief.
- Potential for Future Procedures.
Revision hip replacement, also known as hip revision surgery, is a procedure performed to replace a previously implanted artificial hip joint with a new one. This type of surgery is typically necessary when the original hip implant fails or causes complications over time. Revision hip replacement is a more complex procedure compared to primary hip replacement, and it may involve addressing issues such as implant wear, instability, infection, or bone loss.
